WE the PEOPLE  an outdoor exhibit

A NEW WAY TO GET OUT THE VOTE

Public Art    For and By the People

This touring exhibit intends to increase voter participation through a highly inclusive and visible public art project. Using art as a powerful vehicle to promote social and political awareness:  rePublicArt presents We the People; a touring exhibit emphasizing participatory democracy. Works of art created by 1500 people of all ages hang from lampposts and city buildings.

The exhibit has been touring on lampposts since January and is now in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. Started in New Haven, CT it has traveled to other CT cities, New Hampshire, Kentucky. The exhibit continues to grow with each city stop, with artists and students adding artwork. The entire exhibit includes 100 works. Artwork depicts the preamble to the constitution, amendments, Get out and Vote and more. Cross street banners announce the exhibit and photo reproductions hang in City Hall for indoor reference.  rePublicArt will conduct hands-on workshops in Eaton Rapids November 12 - 21.

Turning Main Street into a community art gallery! Our goal is to expand the nature of art in public places through participatory art projects that build community and public appreciation for the arts as a vehicle for positive social change. Scaled to any size city, these exhibits of lamppost banners and temporary murals are created from recycled lamppost banners and highway billboard vinyl.

"The Democracy Exhibit, "We the People," mixes powerful words and symbols in order to deliver a valuable message. The colorful banners celebrate democracy and encourage people to participate in the process. In New Haven, hundreds of people worked on the exhibit and were able to create something not only beautiful, but poignant. . . .."

John DeStefano, Jr.   Mayor of New Haven

Originally developed as a public education tool, rePublicArt's touring exhibits,"We the People" and "Urban Forest" and opening receptions are accompanied by a variety of educational materials for teachers and walking outdoor gallery guides. These components offer more in depth discussion about the value of art in public space and involve the audience in the exhibits broader purpose.   A major objective of these touring exhibits is to entice inquiry through a visual take-over of this public space (normally used for repetitive, nocuous city decor) with fresh, dynamic, multi dimensional ART with a cause.

rePublicArt facilitates the creation of theme-based outdoor exhibits by offering hands-on workshops for communities, schools, festivals and events and training programs for teachers, community organizers and artists to continue creating lamppost banner art and murals.
